About Us

The Story So Far

The first time I heard the name Keke Rosberg was in 2001 and I was only 14 years old. The ITV F1 presenter Jim Rosenthal had brought him up in a conversation regarding Mika Hakkinen. As an obsessive of F1 growing up in the 1990’s (particularly a massive Michael Schumacher fan) I was fully immersed in that particular period, my personal era. I knew bits about 1950s and 60’s but the 1970s and 1980s was still a bit lacking. I was also too young to have ever seen Keke race in F1. Intrigued by his unusual name I decided to look him up on the internet to try locate an official website and find out more about this former champion who I knew nothing about. I couldn’t find one. I also tried to find a fan website about him but again nothing appeared.

The internet was very different in 2001 and Wikipedia had only started in January of that year. It pages on former F1 champions certainly wasn’t anywhere near as comprehensive as those pages are today. Remember this was 4 years before YouTube existed so you couldn’t watch any clips either. I did manage to find little snippets of information on lots of different websites, all focusing on separate parts of Keke’s career but without much overlap. It was an interesting journey finding all this information out but it was also a frustratingly long-winded one. So I thought if I couldn’t find a site then maybe I should be the one to build it and that is how this site was born.

I researched all the information I could find online, placed it in the best order I could and built a basic website to house it all. My hope was to make finding out about Keke Rosberg a much easier task for beginners and to be of interest to existing fans as well. Since those first few steps I have strived to find out more about Keke Rosberg, regularly updating the site with new research to make it as comprehensive as possible. Today Wikipedia has a stronger page on Keke’s career than it did in 2001, but I still pride my site on covering a wider and more extensive database of information.

In 2004 I obtained the ‘kekerosberg.com' domain address to make the site even easier to find and this has been reflected by the volumes of traffic we receive. Whilst Keke’s son Nico was racing in Formula 1 the site saw a massive boom in new visitors as Keke became a familiar name again for a brand new audience. This has meant people from all around the world (over 160 different countries at last count), have been visiting the site each year.

I have continued to redesign and refreshed the site periodically with each new design making the site more accessible and hopefully more informative. The biggest of these was our update in January 2021 which saw a massive amount of new research conducted and a huge visual redesign, overhauling the site in time for its 20th anniversary.

We have had lots of lovely people get in contact with the site throughout its existence and I would like to thank every single person who has taken the time to done so. I would also like to apologise if you do happen to ever get a late reply to any of these messages. As I still run and maintain the site single-handedly it means that I’m not always able to give it my undivided attention.

Although this is an unofficial website and independent of Keke Rosberg we hope he is happy for us to continue to be the virtual home of all his achievements. It’s been a fantastic experience running this site over the last 20 years and I hope to continue sharing it with you for many more to come!
