The acclaimed Formula 1 podcast Bring Back V10's recently recorded an episode on the 1986 Australian Grand Prix, notable as Keke Rosberg's final F1 race.
"Bring Back V10's" is a widely acclaimed series produced by the team at The Race, focusing on the the iconic V10 engine era of Formula 1 from 1989 to 2006. Having previously examined a handful of races after its usual remit of 2006, this race from 1986 is the first to venture before 1989 and into the turbo era of F1.
Host Glenn Freeman, along with panelists Edd Straw and Andrew van de Burgt, provide an in-depth analysis of the dramatic events of the Australian Grand Prix in this latest episode. The discussion primarily focuses on the key events that affected the championship outcomes for Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, and Alain Prost. However for fans of Keke Rosberg, this race holds significance as it marks his final appearance in Formula 1 and the panel do devote some time to this and the events of Keke's race. They highlight his remarkable start, how this became a commanding lead, and his strategy to support his teammate Prost's championship aspirations. The conversation includes Keke's retirement from the race while leading, due to a tire puncture, and the implications this then has in the race for the title contenders. Interestingly, they also note Keke's brakes wouldn't have made it through the race, so winning his last race was out of the question, even without the puncture.
